I'm a sucker for ship names. And this name is very interesting.

I don't think a ship can be a battleship and a destroyer.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen on a pistol I designed. Sometimes copy and paste can be a real bitch.

So I've been going through all your designs again looking at them and I've gotta say of all of them this is my favorite. There's a special spot in my heart for space based vessels that are, as someone put it earlier on this deviation "Gator Freighters". I love the layout, especially the locations of the docking bays for the Warhawk and Sparrowhawk gun/drop ships.

Similar design lineage, but the lines feel fresh and new. What is the purpose of that circular construct on the propulsion block? The bigger ships don't seem to have it.

It's just the reactor compartment access hatch. On the larger ships it Is square.

Beautiful work.
I really like the design.:+favlove:
As a fan of the U.S. MArine Corps I am especially fond of their version of the destroyer.
I really would love to see your take on a Marine assault vessel like the Tarawa class .:)

:iconchroniclesofman:
ChroniclesofMan Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
The Marine variant is really the Assault vessel like the Tarawa. Instead of an axial gun, it has a huge, long flight bay and is designed for atmospheric operation as a ground assault craft. It also adds in fire support as well.

Well it`s off to the recruiter then.:abduction:
Fleet Marine Officer sound interesting. I would have liked a career in Tank Command (if they have tanks that is) or Power Armour.
Well, as long as we can dream we are alive.:)

No tanks. Mechs. 25 foot tall mechs with guns. I need to draw those at some point.
Fleet Marine Officer is essentially a detatched Marine officer. In this future, Marines are their own branch with their own support structure and support system. However, they loan some of their personel (and the Navy loans some of theirs to them) to the Navy in order to fill the roles of boarding teams, ground operations personnel, etc.

And of course. I always remember the famous quote: "Imagination is more important than Knowledge."

This is a dream come true.
The mecha units it is then. Application form filled out and filed. :)
I can`t wait to see your designs on such machines.
I am no artist so it is diifcult for me to point out what I like about your designs.
They are clean, sleek and to the point. They are believable.
Looking at them they are not 4000 meters because the secs say so, but because they look 4000 meters.
Lets say I just like them.
So I am curious how your take on the world of mecha will look like.
I devinitely will enjoy your future updates.

Would this happen to be the first class in the story you've made with wing turrets?

:iconchroniclesofman:
ChroniclesofMan Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I'm not sure what you mean by wing turrets. It has turrets on there. They just happen to be off center axis and doubled up on either side. It is the first design I've done like that, but the reason is more towards its mission role, not something for aesthetic purposes.

Off-centered to the side is exactly what I meant by wing turrets, they were common on early Dreadnought ships.

Yeah. Familiar with the design, just not the terminology. And yes. But again, this more is driven by its function.

I figured it's a matter of the ship's role, but it doesn't keep it from being aesthetically appealing at the same time.

Love it. Reminds me of the Sulaco with the dropships [link]

I just had an extremely silly thought.
In my mind's eye I see an anthromorphised version of this ship. The lower superstructure is a set of legs and it's romping through a field.

Am I reading the picture right in thinking there's a long flight-deck on the marine version? There's the side bays and there are two openings on top, one or two at the bottom and one on the front...

So the marine version is an assault destroyer, and the navy version has some spinal armament?

Your power of observation is impressive. Most impressive.

Yeah, you nailed it. Marine version is for atmospheric operation and fire support as well as assault.
