Prime Universe Perception-Class UPDATE 9.2.2013 by ChroniclesofMan Prime Universe Perception-Class UPDATE 9.2.2013 by ChroniclesofMan
Here is my 2013 Star Trek Project:

A prime universe variant of my Perception-Class Starship. I hope you enjoy!

As a note, this ship would have been built around the same time of the Odyssey-Class (STO) and the Vesta-Class. She is envisioned as a Intergalactic Explorer, capable of stable Benamite Slipstream velocities (though at the expense of HUGE amounts of anti-matter/matter reaction masses) Allowing for sustained velocities to reach other galaxies (and extended exploration in those places). She and the second vessel of her class, the Paragon, are to be the flagships of the new Andromeda-Mission to explore the distant Andromeda Galaxy.

9.2.2013: Settled on a window set and settled on a principle color scheme. Still not 100% sure on the windows. They feel a bit large. Let me know what you think!

Meh, the nacelles and pylons just don't do it for me as some of your past design passes.

Otherwise, the Perception class remains one of my favorite and most influential designs, ever.

The most beautiful Star Trek ship I have ever seen! It makes me realize how much I miss Star Trek in TV right now, there should definately be a new TV series and this would be an awesome ship for it!

Awesome. Before you head to Andromeda you might want to check on the Status of the Kelvans. Star Trek TOS "By Any Other Name."

I'll be doing full orthos of the ship.  I'd also like to do deck plans time permitting.  I am trying to create the "next generation" of the galaxy-class, which is the best "thought out" version of any star trek ship I know.

Curiously when Encounter at Farpoint premiered and the Galaxy Class was revealed to us ... I disliked it immensely, but over the years have come to love that design. I suspect my initial dislike (I'm a starship designer) came from the fact that the primary hull just looked too big and that made the ship look odd. Anyway I purchased the floor plans for her when they came out (must find those, they are here someplace) and I've got plenty of manuals - but it was the Intrepid Class U.S.S. Voyager that really interested me. A few years ago I contacted Rick Sternbach and spoke with him about the Intrepid and he informed me that at the time of our talking he was working on deck plans for the ship. I never did find out if they ever got published, although I'm aware that some fan-based plans are available in the wild. I'll be very interested in seeing more of your work - it is highly impressive.

How long would it take for this thing to travel 2.5 million light years with it's Benamite drive? Also, how fast is it can it go when cruising?
Love your work, you can just see the level of thought put into every piece that you do!
Also, how's CoM going?

CoM is going great.  I'm taking about a 6 month sabatical and basically closing outside input to iron out somethings in the CoM house in terms of tech, ship rules, etc.  Trying to make it far more accessible for new players.  That will be CoM 3.0 which should be released in 2014.

As for the benamite drive, the Perception and other ships equipped with Icarus Series core can maintain a stable benamite tunnel for about 3 million light years (until it finally destabilizes).  However, to generate that tunnel (or really any stable tunnel for greater than a few seconds - the current limit with Aventine and Odyssey-class starships - requires about 1/4th of the ship's matter/anti-matter servers and a huge surge of energy from her two warp cores to the slipstream field projectors in her deflector and the two nacelles.  Consequently the ship uses Slipstream just to get where she is going to be exploring locally and then conventional warp for exploring the region.

So I'd be correct in assuming that the benamite drive offers near instantaneous (~1-2 seconds) travel along it's established trajectory? Also, the Andromeda Galaxy is pretty flippin' huge, I hope they're getting better mileage out of their conventional drives than Voyager! And what kind of weapons do these things field? Standard stuff or something a little more exotic? I'm a big sci-fi geek so I latch onto any quality stuff I can find!

Glad to hear CoM is still in progress, I was worried for a second there! Also, where would be a good place to follow your works? Do you have anything like a Twitter account, or tumblr?

This is probably the best place to follow my work.  CoM is far from over.  It is my life project.  My Star Wars, My Star Trek.  Etc.

As for travel, it doesn't provide instantaneous travel ability.  It would take a starship about a week to get to Andromeda along a stable slipstream corridor.  As for conventional warp, the new Brahms series warp drive drains are used by all of the starships and provide a 300% boost in efficiency thanks to non-traditional double-helical warp coils.  This will all be part of perception's technical manual.
